On the occasion of Good Friday, St John the Evangelist Church Pangala, Shankerpura organized the Way of the Cross on 30th March, 2018 at 10 a.m. Large number of devotees of the parish took part in the Way of the Cross which depicted the events surrounding the crucifixion of Christ. The way of the Cross includes 14 various events that centre around the passion and the death of Jesus. The faithful of the parish took part in this ceremony with great devotion and faith. During the Way of the Cross reflective narration was read out and the devotees of various wards of the church symbolically carried the cross. Fr Ferdinand Gonsalves, the parish Priest directed the entire ceremony. Singing of passion hymns by the Choir made the event meaningful. An hour long devotion helped the devotees to enrich themselves with spiritual nourishment.
Good Friday recalls the death of Jesus the saviour on the cross for the salvation of the mankind. His death on the cross redeemed the world from the bondage of sin. The church ceremonies on this day include reading of the Passion of Christ, reciting a string of prayers, veneration of the Cross and communion service. The entire day is spent in prayer, penance and fasting.
