Maundy Thursday Celebrated at St John the Evangelist Church, Pangla
Maundy Thursday signifies the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the apostles which was celebrated on 24th March, with a traditional high mass by Fr Jerald Sandeep D’Mello along with Parish Priest Rev. Fr Leslie D’Souza, Fr Vincent Coelho, Fr Lawrence Mendonca and Dn Joshwin D’Souza. The day is also known for institution of Holy Eucharist and the priesthood of the church.
Fr Jerald D’Mello in his homily highlighted the aspect of Christian attitude of service. We should give our service for those who are in need. Though we render our service in the public still we have to concentrate in our families. During his homily he mentioned the decree of Pope Francis saying that the rules of the traditional foot washing, the rite should be no longer be restricted to men but all the people of God. Besides this he emphasized on the significance of priesthood. He gave a call to speak positive about the priests as well as accompany them in their ministry.
Thereafter Parish Priest Rev. Fr Leslie D’Souza, washed the feet of four women and eight men reminding the washing of the feet of twelve Apostles by Jesus Christ.
Following the Holy Eucharist, the Adoration was conducted by Parish Priest Rev. Fr Leslie D’Souza and later the Holy Eucharist was taken ceremoniously to the Altar of Repose while the main alter was stripped off the white covering and removing the flowers and leaving it bare as a symbol of the eve of the passion and crucifixion of Jesus Christ on Good Friday.
Large number of faithful participated and entire celebrations of Maundy Thursday concluded with silence. Br Jencil Alva Compared the entire liturgy.
