Free Health Check-up Camp organised by Health Commission Unit of St. John The Evangelist Church and Rotary Club of Shankerpura
The Health Commission Unit of St. John The Evangelist Church, Pangla and Rotary Club of Shankerpura jointly with the collaboration from KMC Hospital Manipal, organised Free Health Check-up and Awareness Camp on Sunday, 24th September 2017 at their Community Hall Premises.
The objective of the camp was to provide information regarding daily diet, exercise, control of diabetics, blood Pressure and heart and lung related diseases. A team of Cardiologist, PTCD specialists and support staff from KMC Hospital, Manipal conducted the health check-up. Screening for random blood glucose test, Blood Pressure, procedures like ECG and ECHO test were performed. More than 160 people benefited from this camp.
The Chief Guest on this occasion was Rev.Fr. Ferdinand Gonsalves, Parish Priest of St. John The Evangelist Church and Administrator of St. John’s Educational Institutions Shankerpura. Dr. Prasad Shetty, Cardiologist and Dr. Shivraj Kumar, PTCD specialist from KMC Manipal were also on the dais. Fr.Gonsalves in his inaugural address lauded for the efforts by the members of Health Commission unit and Rotary Clubs of Shankerpura for organising free health check-up camp and for their active participation. He said such free camps are necessary for the benefit of the community.
Immediately after stage function, Cardiologist, Dr. Prasad Shetty from KMC Manipal, delivered detailed talk with power-point presentation on the kind of precautions that could be taken by the people. Awareness about lifestyle practices, like daily exercise, to eat healthy diet, to reduce stress and go for regular check-up. He also emphasized about the signs and symptoms of myocardial infarction (Heart attack) which includes chest pain, sweating, difficulty in breathing etc. He said, as an emergency management, Aspirin tablet can be taken immediately by a person who experiences symptoms of heart attack.
At the beginning, the Chairman of Health Commission Unit Rtn. Dr. Edward Lobo welcomed the guest and team of Doctors and support staff from KMC, Manipal. He thanked Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Ferdinand Gonsalves and Rev. Fr. Vincent Coelho, Principal, St. Johns P.U. College for providing Community Hall, use of School premises and amenities. He also thanked Rtn. Valerian Noronha and Rtn. Antony D’Sa for sponsoring and arranging refreshments and lunch for medical team and volunteers. Rtn. Naveen Barboza, President of Rotary Shankerpura proposed the vote of thanks. The entire program was compeered by Rtn, Naveen Amin, the member and Past President of Rotary Shankerpura.
